UUM ONLINE: Some 116 new postgraduate students, out of the total 205 students who have been offered places, registered at Universiti Utara Malaysia's (UUM) College of Business (COB) for the September 2021/2022 academic session on 8 September. The remaining students were scheduled to register by 26 September 2021.

An academic briefing and orientation session for new postgraduate students were held remotely via the Webex platform. Prof. Dr. Russayani Ismail, Assistant Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the School of Economics, Finance, and Banking at UUM COB, was present to brief the new students.

“We are deeply honoured that you have chosen to continue your studies at UUM COB, and we want to ensure that you receive the best education possible from us.

"Once this pandemic subsides, hopefully soon enough, we will return to the face-to-face (F2F) platform (indeed with the new normal in place). When this occurs, I want you to enjoy your life as postgraduate students to the utmost by socialising with each other (i.e. the academic community on campus) as well as with the community in the surrounding area,” she said.

The briefing was followed with the opening statement delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Subramaniam Sri Ramalu, Director of Postgraduate Studies Unit, UUM COB.

“With the AACSB accreditation that we obtained in 2016, and we will go through the reaccreditation process again this year, one thing we can assure you is the quality education that we can provide to our students, because we need to meet the standards set by the specific international accreditation body, which is a US-based accreditation body. So that is what you can anticipate from us,” he continued.

The virtual orientation proceeded with a Postgraduate Administrative Briefing conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Azam Abdul Razak, the Programme Coordinator of the Postgraduate Studies Unit at UUM COB.

He began the briefing by welcoming all new students to UUM COB and continued to provide the new postgraduate students with an overview of the rules and regulations of the postgraduate programmes at UUM COB.

The new students then participated in parallel briefing sessions conducted by their respective postgraduate programme coordinators from the School of Economics, Finance, and Banking (SEFB), the School of Business Management (SBM), the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), and the Islamic Business School (IBS). The virtual orientation culminated with a briefing on Library Services from a colleague librarian from Sultanah Bahiyah Library.
