UUM ONLINE: Despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic afflicted people all around the world, it had little effect on individuals who wanted to pursue postgraduate study. Last week, 77 new postgraduate students registered with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) College of Business (COB) for the May 2020/2021 academic session, out of a total of 167 spaces available. The remaining students are expected to register before 6 June 2021.

The orientation and academic briefing for the new postgraduate students were conducted virtually via Webex platform. Prof. Dr. Russayani Ismail, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COB who is also the Dean of the School of Economics, Finance, and Banking, officiated the event. Students later participated in the virtual Meet and Greet Session. During the session the new postgraduate students were introduced to the Deans of the various schools under the auspices of the UUM COB.

“We are honoured that you have decided to continue to pursue your studies at UUM COB, and we want to make sure that our students receive the finest possible education from our highly skilled and experienced academic staff. As an AACSB-accredited institution, the College of Business places a premium on educational excellence.

“Last but not least, I would like to welcome all new postgraduate students to UUM, and I hope your academic adventure with UUM, particularly with the UUM College of Business, will be memorable,” said Prof. Dr Russayani.

The virtual orientation continued with the Postgraduate Administrative Briefing conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Subramaniam Sri Ramalu, the Director of Postgraduate Studies Unit, UUM COB.

He welcomed all of the new students to UUM COB during the session. He then went on to give a briefing via remote learning at a time when all universities had been recommended to do so, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new students then attended parallel briefing sessions led by their respective postgraduate programme coordinators from the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB), School of Business Management (SBM), Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) and Islamic Business School (IBS). The Library Services briefing, led by a fellow librarian from Sultanah Bahiyah Library, was the final session of the virtual orientation.
