UUM ONLINE: The newly set up Postgraduate Studies Unit of UUM COB currently located at Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) building, officially began its operation on 17 January 2021.

Apart from serving both the academics and postgraduate students on the main campus, the unit will now assume the responsibilities of OYAGSB that relocated to Kuala Lumpur on 1 January 2021. Headed by its Director and assisted by eight administrative staff, the miniature unit not only manages the administrative affairs of the postgraduate programmes at COB, but is also set to play an instrumental role in providing the best services to its stakeholders.

Many activities have been planned for year 2021. One such activity is the Postgraduate Talk Series. In fact, the first instalment of the Postgraduate Series kicked off on 21 February 2021 with a talk delivered by Dr. Nisar Mohammad Ahmad from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) entitled, “A PhD Journey- Bouncing Back from the Darkest Days”.

In a total, 12 talk series have been lined-up and are expected to take place throughout the year. Each talk will delve into various topics that will help to better prepare students in their quest to complete their research process be at Master or Doctoral level.

Likewise, a total of 12 series of Bridging Theory-Practice Talk have also been arranged for both Postgraduate students and faculty members teaching the postgraduate programmes. The objective of this talk series is to share the current developments in industry as a way to bridge the gap between learned theory-practice.

During the theory-practice talk, speakers who are senior industry practitioners are invited to deliver their talk. Incidentally, the first talk entitled, “Current Development in Islamic Finance and Key Takeaways for Scholars and Practitioners” was delivered by Dato’ Mohamad Zabidi Ahmad on 28 February 2021.

The involvement of industry players in the talk series is part of a strategy developed specifically aimed at nurturing the smart partnership between University-Industry which will also indirectly help to promote the academic programmes.

The Unit has also taken collaborative approach in organising the above-mentioned events with speakers nominated by the various schools at COB based on the expertise of the individuals and relevancy of the topics.
